Space weather for aviators doesn"t mean your aircraft gets hit by a meteor. But the sun and its activity has a great impact on our navigation and avionics. Without knowing it we as pilots could get lost in a sun storm.

The significance of space weather lies in its potential impact on man-made technologies on Earth and in space, for example, on satellites and spacecraft, especially radio and telephone communications, electricity power grids, pipelines and on geophysical exploration.

Space weather storms can result in lost or degraded communications, unreliable navigational equipment, flight-critical electronic system problems, and radiation hazards to crew and passengers.

Space weather arises as a result of various dynamic, but relatively short-lived, phenomena produced by the Sun, which are carried in the solar wind and which may interact with the Earth"s magnetosphere. Long-term changes, that is, changes over decades to centuries, also occur in the near-Earth space environment. These changes are due to long period variations in solar magnetic activity and in variations in the strength of the Earth"s magnetic field.

2012 has shown a recent increase in sun activities in a 11 year cycle. These activities have a strong impact on avionics and navigation equipment:

Disruption of GPS;
Disruption of long-distance radio signals;
Ground Induced Current: electrical transmission and ground-based Nav-Aids (VOR, NDB, ...)

The hangar (gray, two steel doors) is at the North West side of the field, abeam the numbers of Rwy '06';
Piston aircraft should park to the right;
Turbine aircraft should park to the left. We can accommodate turboprops/jets in size of King Air 350/Lear Jet;
DO NOT PARK ON HELIPADS IN FRONT OF THE HANGAR!!
Parking/Tie-down for the event at this location is FREE!

Parking at TRANSIENT AREA (TXWY D/A - TOWER):

Admin-Office is closing at 6:00pm (18:00). After hour parking requires an overnight fee. We have a golf cart available for pickups. Please call 800-430-4804.

From the 5 freeway:

Exit Beach Blvd (depending on construction you might have to navigate to Beach Blvd) go north on Beach Blvd.
Turn east (right) on Artesia.
Just past Dale St., turn south (right) on Dale Pl.
At end of Dale Pl. cul de sac, turn east (left) in alley.
Take alley to end and we are the last gate on the right just past Air Combat.
Ring doorbell or call 714-765-7900 for entry.

From the 91 freeway:

Exit Magnolia and go north.
Turn west (left) on Commonwealth.
Turn north (right) on Dale St.
Turn east (right) on Artesia.
Make an immediate right on Dale Pl.
At end of Dale Pl. cul de sac, turn east (left) in alley.
Take alley to end and we are the last gate on the right just past Air Combat.
